Be Honest / 2024
One rule for sitting in the PSLE exam is that we are not allowed to use a fully opaque pencil case. The pencil case is filled with different kinds of stationery, which are important for our daily routines hence I believe students took advantage of the fact that it is messy inside the case to hide cheating methods. I reckon this rule was made due to cheating incidents and their solution is to have students use see through cases. In my opinion, I think cheating is one of the worst forms of dishonesty. Imagine people who work hard, and although they did well, they will not know that there are people who cheated to be on the same level. To me, that is not fair.
In this pencil case sketch, I emphasised on the part that is transparent. Depicting the see-through material and showing the stationery inside, will probably make people who want to cheat think twice. With different amounts of pressure on graphite, the plastic part of the pencil case looks smooth and shiny. There are two main textures in my artwork, smooth and slightly textured for the sewn material. I think overall I did a very good job in terms of recreating the likeness to my actual pencil case.
